International Officers

We are delighted to announce that the DELF Committee has voted to appoint both Thom Dieben and Alexis Anagnostakis on to the Committee to be our International Representatives. We very much look forward to working with them in the coming months and particularly discussing ways in which DELF can assist its members who live and work outside the UK.

We also have an international sub-committee, chaired by Mark Summers QC which will get underway this year with the aim of working to further DELF’s profile in Europe and beyond.

International Officer

To help develop and build our relationships with our members outside the UK, the Committee would like to appoint one of our international members to join the Committee as our International Officer. If you are outside the UK and interested in joining the Committee, please can you send expressions of interest, with a short paragraph detailing what you consider DELF could do for international members, to by 4pm on 3 December 2021. The Committee will then vote to appoint one applicant.

John Jones QC Essay Competition 2021

We are delighted to launch the John Jones QC Essay Competition, which is open to law students, trainee solicitors, pupil barristers and legal practitioners up to 3 years PQE or call (or equivalent).

John RWD Jones QC was a superb barrister, specialising in extradition, international law and human rights. He represented clients in many of the leading cases of the day, including Charles Taylor, the former president of Liberia, and Julian Assange. John was also a gifted academic lawyer, with publications including a textbook with Antonio Cassese, the eminent international lawyer, and a leading practitioner text on extradition. John sadly passed away in April 2016 and DELF continues to honour his memory through its annual essay competition in his name.

A judging panel consisting of the Senior District Judge Paul Goldspring, Edward Fitzgerald QC and Jasvinder Nakhwal will select the winning essay.

The winner will receive a prize of £750 and 2022 DELF Membership. Second place will receive a prize of £250 and 2022 DELF Membership. Third place will receive 2022 DELF Membership. In addition, all three will receive copies of “Extradition law: a practitioner’s guide”, written by Edward Grange and Rebecca Niblock and very kindly donated by the Legal Action Group.

Please find further details of the competition here and do encourage those you know to enter.
